The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, in Abuja on Monday night over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the development to Channels Television, revealing that Okorocha was apprehended at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.
According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was subsequently granted bail after undergoing approximately one hour of questioning in connection with the allegations.
Iniedu explained that Okorocha was directed to report to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further interrogation as investigations into the matter continue.
The arrest reportedly followed the former governor's failure to respond to earlier invitations issued by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Reports indicated that Okorocha was initially summoned to the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, his legal representatives requested that the appointment be moved to September 8.
Despite the rescheduling, the former Imo State governor reportedly failed to appear before police investigators on the agreed date.
The police subsequently moved to arrest him in Abuja to facilitate further questioning over the allegations.
Authorities have indicated that investigations remain ongoing, with Okorocha expected to cooperate with investigators as they examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
